When you heard Polillo, what comes into your mind? Have you experience Tarictic festival? Have you visited Polillo province?

Polillo Island is part of the Quezon Province which is showcasing some of unique traditions like Tarictic Festival.

          The municipality of Polillo celebrate the province biodiversity every march by integrating the Polillo Tarictic festival into it annual fiesta. The festival start few years back a simple kite-flying competition, exhibitions, and Tarictic mascot parade. It has become a major event recently with the completion of the Polillo tarictic dance and the float parade. To assist in the planning and organization of this event ,the Polillo islands biodiversity conversation foundation ,Inc .and the Philippines Biodiversity conversation Program ,which is now administered by the Philippines biodiversity conversation Foundation ,Inc .provided Technical support .It  should be noted that the Polillo tarictic is only endemic to the Polillo Group pf Islands ,despite the fact that it is merely a sub-species ( Penelopides manillea subnigra) of the hornbill as penelopides manillae. This is the very reason why the LGU is giving importance to this sub- species.

The idea of the festival is that simple. The dance competition highlights the natural attributes of the Polillo Tarictic. It is tarictic inspired costume, music and event conduct. The dance competition hence becomes not only fun but educational too. The art of conceptualizing the tarictic features though costumes and dance is hard  because the animal itself is marvelous  and vibrant from its feather ,head ,wings and body outline .the tarictic also glides elegant and its flight can be an excellent source of inspiration in choreography for dance .The utilization of the local materials as costumes for participation in the dance is another aspects of the Polillo tarictic festival.

The Polillo Tarictic Festival is currently in its infancy stage, yet it can grow to become another hit festival in the nation if only the local government would be serious about it. The Polillo LGU must look into seeking help and support from other institutions and people who have expertise in putting up festival and undertake massive and innovative promotional campaigns. Most of the most popular festival in the Philippines do not have a specific endemic fauna as a festival theme, and this makes the Polillo Tarictic Festival stand out and original.
